Having left Ranelagh at ‘silly (4.30 am) o’clock’, our transport connections worked perfectly – Heathrow Terminal 3 to Marseilles. We landed through cloud but already the air seemed warmer. A coach whisked us to Collège Marie Mauron where we were warmly met by our French connections and the Headteacher. A three course lunch in the school canteen set us up very well for an afternoon of school – lessons with our partners interspersed with a lesson in Pétanque washed down with provençal Gambetta (a drink made with fig syrup). When the school bell went (a rendition of ‘Don’t worry, Be happy!), we each disappeared with our French partners to discover their homes and families..
