Today the sun shone as we first visited the Museo de America for glimpses of Mayan, Incan and Aztec culture, then walked to the Parque del Oeste to catch the “teleferico” (cable car) to the Casa de Campo. After snacks of “comida basura” and “helados”, we returned to central Madrid to see the Palacio Real (royal palace) and climb the Catedral de la Almudena to see great views. We then walked through Madrid via Opera and Puerto de Sol (where the clock welcomes in New Year and revellers attempt to eat 12 grapes as midnight chimes), before finding a traditional cafe to order “chocolate con churros”. Good banter with the “camareros”. Then “tapas” tonight for the Spanish and British exchange partners.
