As we prepare for the final week of a long and productive term, I thought that it would be helpful to make you aware of the arrangements in place for students in school from Monday.
As you are aware, Christmas Lunch will take place on Tuesday 15th December. All students who have bought tickets will be eating in the dining hall and those who have not done so will have the opportunity to eat their packed lunches in the Studio. In keeping with tradition, Christmas lunch will be served to all students in years 7 to 11 by our sixth form prefects and the choir will be singing carols to accompany some of the festivities. It is also worth noting that, due to the increased numbers of students wishing to eat Christmas lunches, this year we have arranged for students in year 7 to come to the dining hall at the earlier time 12pm. In view of the challenges associated with preparing such a large number of lunches, you are also reminded that there will not be a break time service from the canteen on this day; students wishing to enjoy snacks and drinks mid-morning should ensure that they bring these with them. Similarly, only pre-ordered Christmas meals will be available at lunch time, so students not having a Christmas lunch must bring a packed meal.
Christmas Jumper Day 2015
Following the success of last year’s event, this year students will be encouraged once again to participate in Christmas Jumper Day, in support of the campaign organised by Save the Children. Staff and students wishing to wear their festive jumpers to school on Friday 18th December will be asked to make a donation of £1. Save the Children have pledged that all of the money raised will go to help the work of Macmillan Cancer Support, Make-A-Wish UK and Save the Children.
Last day of term – Friday 18th December
In addition to their lessons in the morning, one of the highlights on the final day of term is the opportunity for all students to attend our annual Christmas assembly. This is a very traditional service with carols and readings, culminating in the lighting of our final Advent candle. During an extended tutor period, students prepare for the term ahead and at lunch time they will have the opportunity to visit lost property on display in C56. If you know that your child has lost an item (or possibly two!) during the course of this term, please encourage him/her to visit the display. It is always galling to see possessions going to waste in this way and we would like to reunite as many of the items as possible with their owners.
Following their final form tutor period, students will be dismissed from school at approximately 13.25. They will be reminded to collect items from their lockers before leaving for what we hope will be a peaceful and joyous Christmas.
Thank you for your support this term and I look forward to welcoming you to our Christmas Service at Holy Trinity Church in Bracknell next Thursday evening.
